Exiting transitional housing

When you’re ready to move on

Your housing provider can help you move on from transitional housing when you’re ready and able to sustain longer-term housing that is more appropriate to your needs.

If you’re no longer eligible for transitional housing assistance, your tenancy manager can help you find other suitable housing.

Even when exiting, you must meet your tenancy obligations. Read about these obligations on the Residential Tenancies Authority website.

Refusing an offer

If you receive an offer of longer term social housing and you refuse this offer for an unacceptable reason (e.g. you prefer a brick house rather than timber), your application for housing assistance will be:

  • changed to the date you refused the offer
  • moved to a lower position on the housing register.

If you refuse 2 offers of housing for an unacceptable reason, your application is removed from the housing register.

This means you can’t apply for housing assistance for 12 months.

Where your application has been cancelled because you have refused two reasonable offers of housing, you can still seek assistance from the department to access other products, services, referrals and support.

Complaints and decision reviews

If you’re unhappy with a decision made by your tenancy manager about your tenancy, raise the issue with the tenancy manager and/or seek advice from the Residential Tenancies Authority.

If you’re unhappy with a Queensland Government decision about your social housing application, you may be able to request a review of the decision.
